Islamabad United won the toss and elected to field first.
While batting first, Gladiators had a great start with the opening partnership of 35 in first 4 overs, with the help of Ahmed Shahzad‘s 26 off just 15 deliveries, but he got out on the first ball on the 5th over. Kevin Pietersen followed him and got out on a golden duck on the very next ball. After his dismissal, things slowed down quite a bit.
Quetta kept crawling their way to a decent score as they scored 102/4 after 15 overs. Asad Shafiq, 5 shy of his great fifty, got out on the very first ball of 16th over. After his dismissal, Perera and Mahmudullah played decent cameos and succeeded in giving Quetta a decent total of 148.
While chasing, Islamabad started off well too. They piled on 34 runs for no loss in first 5 overs. Smith got out at the start of 6th over, but Sam Billings, who was in supreme form kept on going strong. Islamabad later lost Brad Haddin in the 8th over and then Misbah-ul-Haq in the 11th.
Sam Billings was then joined by Shane Watson, who played a crazy cameo of 36 off 27 balls. After his out, Billings stayed there and remained not out on 78, as he finished the chase with a four.
